Hinckley Road Brewery

Hinckley Road Brewery, 5 Hinckley Road, Leicester, Leicestershire
In 1835, John Johnson was listed as victualler and Maltster, right through to 1883, where he was still listed as 'Maltster of Great Holme Street and brewer at 5 Hinckley Road'. The Johnsons occupied the Great Holme Street Maltings as well as the Birmingham Tavern, latterly known as the Hinckley Road Brewery, sometimes referred to by either name. In June 1887 the licence was taken by George Brown who was listed as the brewer in 1891.
In November 1894 the owners were the Beeston Brewery Co. Ltd; however, the business was still listed the following year as John Wilkinson, brewer, and he was still listed in 1909.
The Beeston Brewery was taken over by Shipstone & Sons Ltd of Nottingham, who rebuilt the Birmingham Tavern and renamed it the Shipstones Arms.
The pub was closed and demolished circa 1978 for a new road scheme.
