  • 1. James Fox purchased land on Regent Street and Back Regent Street, Barnsley, in March 1867.
  • 2. Trafalgar Inn, New Street, Barnsley, May 1867.
  • 3. Old Windmill, Shambles Street, Barnsley, May 1867.
  • 4. Star Inn, Hoyland Road, Hoyland Common, May 1867.

Thomas Fox & Charles Fox, described as ‘wine & spirit merchants’ took over c.1885 and extended the tied-house estate thus:-

  • 6. Boy & Barrel (later Marlborough Hotel), Dodworth Road, Barnsley, November 1892;

  • 8. George Hotel (formerly the Sailor Prince), Sheffield Road, Barnsley, January 1893 (ex- Barnsley Brewery Co. This pub closed in 1911.

Registered as James Fox & Sons Ltd., September 1917, with the Victoria Hotel, South End, Thorne and the Queens Hotel, Barnsley, in addition to the above.
