This special issue of Brewery History contains a single work,
The Anchor Brewery, Park Street, Southwark, by the foremost
historian of the British brewing industry, Professor Peter Mathias.
Researched in the summer of 1953, some six years before the publication
of his ground-breaking The Brewing Industry in England, 1700-1830,
this is the first time it has been made available to the public. An
introduction by Ken Thomas, the Company Archivist for Heineken UK Ltd.,
where the only copy of the typewritten manuscript was held, is free to
