Brewery History Society
Fancy a “Good Ole Collectors Beano” then read on? There will be a third Joint Society Meeting starting at 11:30 hrs on Saturday the 14th June at the Bulls Head, Cambridge Street, St Neots, Cambs. It is hoped to have the following societies in attendance: the British Beermat Collectors Society, the British Brewery Playing Card Society, the Association of Bottle Beer Collectors, the Labologists Society and the Brewery History Society. This year we are also hoping for an appearance of Pat Keogh, the new organiser of the Badge Collectors Circle.
This event was very successful last year with over ninety people coming through the doors. In addition to the above, individuals are invited and encouraged to bring along items of breweriana to trade and sell. As pub tables are likely to be much in demand it would be advisable to bring along your trusty old pasting table in case the pub facilities run out.
If the weather is kind to us, collectors will be able to set up shop in the garden. If the weather proves inclement we can all wheel and deal inside in a more "cosy" environment. The new tenants of the pub, Cecile and daughter Rose, are hoping to offer a comprehensive menu of food for this years event.
If you have any quality items to dispose of, Mike Peterson of the Association of Bottle Beer Collectors, will be organising an auction. A sellers commission of 10% will be charged, which will go towards a charity selected by Cecile.
The venue, i.e. the Bull’s Head, is on the right going east out of the town centre towards Cambridge and is sited about 200 metres before reaching the railway bridge. If approaching from the west, i.e. Cambridge direction, reverse these directions. There is a regular rail service to St Neots from Kings Cross and Peterborough. The pub is only ten minutes walk from the station. The A1 is also very close and the venue can be reached by exiting at the B1041 (coming from the North) or the A428 (coming from the South). For those who might like to stay overnight bed and breakfast plus camping facilities are offered by some of the towns pubs and there is a Premier Lodge Hotel close by on the A1.
This is a good chance to wallow in bottles, beermats, playing cards, labels, badges, etc and meet up with like-minded collectors from other societies, so please do try and come along and don't forget to bring as much breweriana as you can manage. This event will also be publicised in the local press so who knows what will turn up? I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves.
