Joint Society Meeting at St Neots

There will be a Joint Society Meeting starting at 12:00 hrs on the 16th June at the Bulls Head, Cambridge Street, St Neots, Cambs. It is hoped to have the following societies in attendance: the British Beermat Collectors Society, the British Brewery Playing Card Society, the Association of Bottle Beer Collectors, the Labologists Society and the Brewery History Society.

In addition to the above, individuals are invited to bring along items of breweriana to trade and sell. Already the tenants of the pub, Martin and Linda, have promised to turn out the contents of their garage and one of his customers has promised to bring along some bits and pieces he's had stored away in the loft.

If the weather is kind to us, collectors will be able to set up shop in the garden and enjoy an afternoon barbecue. If the weather proves inclement sandwiches will be available in the bar and we can all wheel and deal in a more "cosy" environment. Although the Bulls Head is a Greene King pub selling IPA, Martin plans to have an interesting guest ale on tap. Coffee will be available for those who have to drive home.

If you have any quality items to dispose of, Mike Peterson of the Association of Bottle Collectors, will be organising an auction. A sellers commission of 10% will be charged which will go towards a charity selected by Martin and Linda.

For the brewery historians who like to take photographs St Neots still boasts the fašade of the defunct Paines Brewery albeit somewhat obliterated by scaffolding, together with the Paines maltings which have been renovated and converted to others uses. Lastly the kiln and stack still remain from the long gone brewery of Day & Co.

There is a regular rail service to St Neots from Kings Cross. The pub is only ten minutes walk from the station. The A1 is also very close by and can be reached from the M1 and M6 via the A14. For those who might like to stay overnight bed and breakfast plus camping facilities are offered by some of the towns pubs and there is a Premier Lodge Hotel close by on the A1.

This is a good chance to meet up with like-minded collectors from other societies so please do try and come along and don't forget to bring as much breweriana as you can manage. This event will also be publicised in the local press so who knows what will turn up? I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves.
