Allied Breweries - the national brewery conglemerate Portsmouth - Stamshaw, 164 Twyford Avenue Stamshaw Hotel George Peters & Co were acquired by Friary Meux in 1959. Subsequently the 'Allied' house-style was applied, of which survives Ind Coope lanterns, a 'hand' emblem in the sign ironwork, a small square 'DD' box sign, and inside, the pub name in 'Allied' lettering within the bar-back. George Peters & Co - Kingston Brewery (also owned JJ Young), Portsmouth Portsmouth - Stamshaw, 164 Twyford Avenue Stamshaw Hotel Formerly had etched windows with 'YOUNG'S VICTORY ALES' and 'PETER'S WINES & SPIRITS'. NB reports that these had been replaced by 2005. George Peters was a former brewer and wine merchant who took over J J Young in 1910 and closed their own brewery; they were themselves taken over by Friary Meux in 1959. PE 2002; NB 2005 .
