Mitchells & Butlers Ltd Smethwick Brandhall, Hagley Road West Kings Highway (demolished) A massive pub opened in 1940 by M&B. Prominent exterior with a tower, underneath which is a 'crown' emblem set in a stylised landscape of a road with poplar trees and the sun at the end. The crown was one of the trademarks of the brewer. Demolished by 2009. SP photo 2008; SP 2009 Picture

Atkinson's Brewery Ltd Birmingham Greets Green, 1 Ryders Green Road Eight Locks CAMRA's 1994 local guide described "Atkinson's Brewery windows at front and back". By 2006, these had been replaced by crude modern windows. CAMRA 1994; SP 2006 .

Julia Hanson & Sons Ltd Dudley Horseley Heath, 29 Lower Church Lane Blackcountryman (formerly Britannia) (demolished) An old globe lantern sign above the door with 'HANSON'S ALES'. Two fine curved etched windows on the front with a detailed 'Britannia' illustration. Pub closed in 2006 and then demolished. SP photo 2006 Picture

Holder's Brewery Ltd Birmingham Langley, 1 Causeway Green Road Royal Oak In the rear lounge, four magnificent etched windows (not visible from the street) with HOLDER'S ALES in decorative lettering in an elaborate design. The lettering faces inwards. (There is a similar window in the toilet door with 'LAVATORY'.) Exterior signage is modern M&B including two 'deer leap' lanterns, and 'Good Honest Beer' in applied plastic lettering on the end wall. SP 2005 .

Frederick Smith Ltd Birmingham Langley, 2 Titford Road Model Inn (ex Queens Head) Three very large decorative etched windows with text in two intertwined bands. Two on the front: (1) 'MODEL ARCHER INN' and 'ASTON MODEL BREWERY' with 'TRADE MARK' in the middle. (2) 'SMITH'S ASTON ALES' and 'ASTON MODEL BREWERY' with 'TRADE MARK' in the middle. One on the side, as (1) above. It is understood that one or two of these windows are replacements of the originals with minor variation of the text. SP 2005 .

Showells Brewery Co Ltd Oldbury Langley, High Street Crosswells Named after the brewery which was located nearby. The pub sign is a cross - the brewery trademark. In the lounge, incorporated in the bar canopy are four old leaded window panels - with the 'cross' design and 'TRADE MARK - CROSS WELLS'. SP 2005 .

Mitchells & Butlers Ltd, Cape Hill, Smethwick; and Springfield, Wolverhampton Oldbury, 172 Broadwell Road Heron (demolished) 1960s pub, rebuilt by M&B on the site of a former Butler's pub, the 'Old House at Home'. It had two M&B lanterns, a small box sign with red triangle and 'Toby' trademark, and an original glass panel on the former off-sales with 'M&B'. Demolished in 2006, and by 2009, the site had been redeveloped as flats. SP photo 2006; Google 2009 Picture

Holt Brewery Co Ltd Birmingham Oldbury, 17a Church Street Waggon & Horses A CAMRA National Inventory pub. Ex Holt Brewery, Birmingham. On the gable end, a faded painted sign: 'WAGGON & HORSES - HOLT BREWERY CO - ALES WINES AND SPIRITS'. Side elevation retains three original etched windows with 'THE HOLT BREWERY COMPANY', a squirrel, and 'TRADE MARK'. A similar design window on an unused front door. On the front and side gables, terracotta shields with a squirrel in relief, and a scroll underneath: 'HOLT BREWERY COMPANY'. SP 2005; WRB photo 2010 Picture

Mitchells & Butlers Ltd Smethwick Smethwick, 100 High Street Blue Gates Hotel An enormous interwar pub by M&B. Over the rear door facing Stony Lane is a large decorative stone panel with carved lettering: 'The Blue Gates ... MITCHELLS & BUTLERS ... 1932'. SP photo 2010 Picture

Cheshire's Brewery Ltd Smethwick Smethwick, 39 Cape Hill - corner of Windmill Lane Seven Stars A large corner pub, not far from the site of the brewery. At high level on the corner is a 'Windmill' image - the brewery trademark. The brewery was taken over by its near neighbours Mitchells & Butlers in 1913. SP photo 2008 Picture

Mitchells & Butlers Ltd Smethwick Smethwick, Shireland Road Waterloo Hotel Tiled red terracotta fascia; elevation 1: 'MITCHELLS & BUTLERS'; elevation 2: 'MITCHELLS & BUTLERS ... BREWERS ... WINE & SPIRIT MERCHANTS'. At high level are four buff-coloured terracotta tiled gables - two with '1907', two with decorative logos 'M&B'. On the corner is a modern red 'M&B' letter sign, probably formerly illuminated. Grade 2-star listed, and a CAMRA National Inventory pub. SP 2003; SP photo 2008 Picture

Mitchells & Butlers Ltd Smethwick Tipton, 172 Park Lane West Red Lion Pub closed in 2020. A former Frederick Smith (Aston) house. During the period of Bass M&B ownership, a blue plaque was installed on the front elevation: 'TIPTON CIVIC SOCIETY ... THE RED LION ... TIPTON'S OLDEST PUB DATING FROM THE LATE 18TH CENTURY AND, TOGETHER WITH THE ADJACENT HOUSE, THE LAST REMNANT OF THE OLD VILLAGE OF TIPTON GREEN ... BASS MITCHELLS AND BUTLERS'. Mitchells & Butlers Ltd, Cape Hill, Smethwick; and Springfield, Wolverhampton Warley, 457 Upper Hagley Road New Talbot (demolished) The pub had M&B signs, and the arch to the garden featured 'Deer Leaping' images. By 2012, the pub had been demolished. SP 2008; SP 2012 .

Samuel Woodhall Ltd West Bromwich Wednesbury, 56 Bridge Street Coachmakers Arms Lovely tiled panel at ground floor level (some damage): green lettering on cream 'WOODHALL'S OLD ENGLISH ALES', plus a splendid illustration of a Guard of the Tower of London in Tudor regalia. Showells Brewery Co Ltd Oldbury West Bromwich - Carters Green, 474 High Street Old Hop Pole It had two etched windows - 'SHOWELLS ALES', above which a roundel with 'TRADE MARK' and 'CROSS WELLS' around the 'cross' design - but these were replaced with modern glass in 2006. The porch glass with 'HOLTS' dates from the period as a Holt Plant & Deakin pub in the 1980s. SP photo 2006 Picture

Courage Ltd - London, Bristol, etc West Bromwich, 376 High Street New Hop Pole Formerly one of T Brennand's (Wednesbury) houses. Later one of the pubs that M&B "swapped" with Courage in the 1980s.
