On the rear gable wall is a projecting roundel with 'NEWCASTLE BREWERIES' around a central blue (neon illuminated?) star. Google indicates that this device was previously mounted on the splay above the corner door of the pub: but at this position in 2016 is a brand new neon-illuminated blue star. Newcastle Breweries Ltd Newcastle-upon-Tyne Gateshead - Low Fell, 166 Kells Lane Black Horse A small oval Newcastle Breweries plaque on the front wall: white lettering on maroon 'THE NEWCASTLE BREWERIES' surrounding an illustration of Tyne Bridge and date '1890'. There is also an unusual projecting sign comprising a square metal frame, within which is a blue star with neon tubing around. The Visitor Centre featured wall tiling with a brown ale bottle. By 2010, the brewery was almost entirely demolished: the only identification surviving was one set of gates retaining the 'star' logo.
