In the yard was a single surviving etched window with 'EVERSHEDS BURTON ALES & STOUT'. QUERY Ashbourne, Belle Vue Road A 4-storey warehouse An old painted sign on the brickwork, very faded. There are two lines of lettering, but only 'ALE & PORTER' can be made out for certain. Thought to have been the premises of Thomas Cooper's Ale & Porter Brewery, but needs confirmation ('Century' lists this brewery, later Wilson Allaway & Co Ltd, on Clifton Road). James Eadie Ltd Burton-upon-Trent Ashbourne, Station Road Station Hotel (former) Above two doors are quarterlights with leaded glass incorporating a roundel: 'JAMES EADIE LIMITED' aound the outside; in the centre a large cross and 'TRADE MARK'. Brampton Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Brampton, 249 Chatsworth Road Barrel Rebuilt 1915. Two timbered gables, one with '1915', the other with the Brampton trademark of a strong arm and hammer in relief. Above the door, a leaded glass panel with central oval painted section incorporating the Brampton trademark, plus lettering "HEALTH" and "STRENGTH". Inside, two further Brampton items: an internal leaded glass window incorporating a painting of the earlier pub including a sign: 'BRAMPTON & CO'S ALES'; and a fireplace surmounted by a panel with another strong arm and hammer image in relief. Brampton Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Centre, 13 West Bars Sun Inn Rebuilt by Brampton Brewery in 1914 with an excellent faience frontage. The Brampton trademark, incorporating an image of a strong arm and hammer, plus the words "HEALTH", "STRENGTH" (both in double quotes) and 'TRADE MARK' survives in two windows. Chesterfield Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Centre, 31 Holywell Street Punch Bowl This pub was rebuilt by the Chesterfield Brewery in 1931 shortly before the takeover by Mansfield Brewery. There is a small decorative plaque on the frontage with monogram 'C B Co Ltd'. In 2006, an 'M' appears to have been added to this, but it had been nicely restored to its original condition by 2012. Scarsdale Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Centre, 37 Glumangate Miners Arms / Corner House (former) It had several other names in its later years including 'Corner House', but has now been converted to a restaurant. Rebuilt by Scarsdale Brewery in 1923. The timbered gables feature a carved monogram 'SB'. Also 'MA' representing its original name 'Miners Arms'. SP photo 2012 Picture

Brampton Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Centre, 45 Knifesmithgate Kings Head (various renames since) Built 1924-1926. The arcaded frontage is supported by stone columns; the capital of the central one has a carved king's head; the two either side have splendid shields with the Brampton trademark of a strong arm and hammer in relief. The front ones have painted panes with the 'Barley sheaf' trademark; one has 'WARD'S FINE MALT ALES'. Scarsdale Brewery Co Ltd Chesterfield Chesterfield - Centre, St Marys Gate Dunnells Vaults (former) and Scarsdale Brewery offices I & F Dunnell owned the Scarsdale Brewery during the 1850s, and built the Vaults in 1854. Their name, plus the date 1854 and 'WHOLESALE & RETAIL WINE & SPIRITS MERCHANTS' are on the stone pediment of the Vaults building, which is now in retail use. Adjacent at 42 St Mary's Gate is a blue plaque installed by the Chesterfield Civic Society. It states "MID 18TH CENTURY HOUSE - THE FORMER OFFICES OF THE SCARSDALE BREWERY". SP photo 2006 Picture

Above the main door are carved panels in relief: the date '1899'; a decorative 'WS' monogram; and a central frieze incorporating a cannon - the brewery's trademark. There are old painted signs between the ground and first floor windows with very faint lettering which appears to include 'ALTONS'. ALLSOPP' around a 'hand' illustration. Also an Ind Coope plaque alongside the door. There are faint remains of painted signs on two other walls. On the front gable is a decorative pediment in stone incorporating the monogram 'P G & F Ld'. It later became the 'Windmill', but after closure was converted to a religious centre.
