Gloucestershire - Bristol, Victoria Street: The former Bristol Brewery Georges & Co Ltd - Bath Street Brewery, Bristol
The Bristol Porter Brewery was founded by Isaac Hobhouse in 1730. The brewery was acquired by Philip George and six other merchants in 1788. In 1795, a new brewhouse was constructed in Tucker Street for the production of light ales. The brewery was renamed Georges, Rickettes & Sons in 1816. The company was registered in February 1888, becoming Bristol Brewery Georges & Co. In 1956, it merged with its main local competitor, Bristol United Breweries. The company was acquired by Courage, Barclay & Co Ltd in 1961 with 1,459 tied houses, and the brewery was closed in 1999.
